If you are a dog lover, and have them in your home, you want to keep them happy and healthy. Healthy dogs are not hard to come by if you know how to keep them moving and eating the right foods. Just as the human body needs nutrition and exercise, happy and healthy dogs require the same. The best part is that healthy dogs live longer, and will remain loyal to you for their lifespan. Even better, having healthy dogs is not that hard to do as long as you take the time needed to help them along.
Healthy dogs require immunizations, just like human infants do. It is important that you take a new dog or puppy in to your veterinarian for a check up. If you have a puppy, they may need to get their shots. If your dog has already had shots, take the records in with you to make sure they are up to date and have had all the proper ones needed. If you want healthy dogs, this is something that is a must. There are shots for conditions that might otherwise be fatal to your pet, and you want to protect them from these.
You have to feed your pets the right food as well. For the most part, any dog food out there will help you have healthy dogs, but it never hurts to spend a little more money on food to ensure they are getting the proper nutrition from their daily meals. Healthy dogs also need plenty of water, and they should always have a source of clean and cool water available to them.
Healthy dogs also need a good exercise program to keep them strong and active. An active dog lives longer, and also makes a better pet. For most dogs, daily walks are great, and can be the only exercise they need to remain healthy and active. This depends upon how often you walk them and how far you go. One trip around the block might not be enough. If you have a yard, make sure your dogs get to spend time there, and make sure they are up and moving. Simple games that keep them running might be all they need.
It doesn’t matter what type of exercise you choose, so long as they are doing it. I have seen ads for treadmills for dogs, though honestly, I can’t imagine any dogs I have ever met using them. Instead of spending money on gimmicks, get out there and walk your pets. Make sure your dogs eat right, get moving, have plenty of water, and get proper care from a veterinarian, and you can know you’ve done your best to make sure your dogs are healthy dogs.
